A customer wants to upload a large file instead of entering records individually. Define what happens when some rows are invalid before deciding how the import interface should look.
Agree on the data contract
Document required values and identifiers. Clarify whether existing records should be updated or rejected. Provide an example file with permitted synthetic data.
Make failures recoverable
Return useful row-level errors without disclosing other customers' records. Keep successful work identifiable. A second upload must have an agreed treatment for rows already processed.
Accept the whole workflow
Test a mixed file, a repeated upload and an interrupted operation. Check whether support can explain the outcome from the available record. Ask a partner to price validation, recovery and operational monitoring as part of the feature. A successful clean upload leaves the most expensive customer failures untested.
