A supplier cannot reliably price an unknown defect simply from its visible symptom. Begin with a diagnosis whose outputs you can review.
Define the investigation
Provide authorized reproduction cases, logs and the affected business journey. Set access boundaries and the questions to answer. Agree how unresolved findings will be reported.
Require a useful result
The report should show confirmed causes, excluded hypotheses and remaining uncertainty. Include the smallest proposed repair and its verification method.
Decide on the repair
Compare alternatives by operational impact and maintenance consequences. Keep the repair approval distinct from the diagnostic engagement. This gives your company a usable result even if another supplier performs the change, and prevents an open-ended investigation from becoming an unexamined implementation commitment.
