Internal and external engineers: make handover a shared delivery task

Internal and external engineers need a shared handover task when product responsibilities move between them. European buyers should define what the receiving person must be able to do. A presentation or document upload provides less evidence than performing an authorized task from the supplied instructions.

Choose a representative operation

Select a bounded activity such as building a test version, examining a known issue or exporting suitable data. Define its expected result and allowed environment. The operation should fit the receiver's future responsibilities.

Identify the required product context and account permissions before the exercise. A failed attempt caused by unavailable access should be recorded separately from unclear instructions.

Gather the working information

Business ruleUnderstand the intended result
Current versionReproduce the same product state
Access pathObtain permitted rights
Operating stepsPerform the task
Failure handlingRespond to an expected exception
Decision ownerResolve a remaining question

Preserve the questions

The receiving engineer records where instructions are incomplete. The previous owner answers and updates the project material. Avoid leaving the explanation only in a private conversation.

Recheck the specific unresolved step after correction. Repeating all successful work adds little when the remaining issue is already identified.

Keep handover current

Record the tested task, version and limits. Assign any reserve to a responsible person. Update affected instructions after meaningful product changes.

A personnel change can use the same approach on the relevant area. Shared repositories preserve code; useful handover evidence also preserves the decisions and operating knowledge required to work with it.
