A new portal imports files but loses the relationship between revisions. Users need to understand which document applies to their current task.
Identify history requirements
Describe versions, approvals and replacements. Ask competent internal owners to confirm any applicable retention requirements. Permission boundaries should be considered for historical content too.
Map the migration
Preserve stable references or document their replacement. Flag missing versions and uncertain relationships. Avoid inventing a history from timestamps alone.
Verify with users
Review representative document sequences and downloaded results. Include withdrawn access and archived files. Ask for an exception report and a correction owner. A count of migrated documents cannot show whether the history remains meaningful for the people who use the portal.
