A legacy integration has no API: evaluate a controlled bridge first

Your new application needs data from software without a suitable API. Examine available supported interfaces before planning a full replacement.

Inventory legitimate access

Check exports, documented database access and provider-supported connectors. Clarify permissions and contractual restrictions with the relevant owners. An undocumented screen automation may be fragile.

Test changing conditions

Evaluate missing data, format changes and service interruptions. A bridge needs an observable failure path and a responsible operator. Define freshness requirements from the business task.

Decide the useful lifespan

Compare bridge maintenance with replacement work. Ask the partner to document assumptions and exit conditions. The first engagement should establish whether the connection is feasible and supportable, rather than commit to an integration whose source system can change without notice.
